Week 9 -The Expert
Pedagogue
John Wooden’s Pyramid of success works on the aspect of
success with competitive greatness as is key influence of the pyramid. He states
that “Success is piece of mind which is a
direct result of self-satisfaction in knowing you made the effort to become the
best that you are capable of becoming.” This statement shows me just how
crucial the pyramid of success is, in the realisation of pursuing a goal and in
the end succeeding.
I feel that success also involves mind of matter, you have
to be in the right frame of mind to pursue any given task. As Wooden mentions
in his 2001 clip, there is a difference between winning and succeeding. As a
basketball coach he believed “what you are as a person is far more important
than what you are as a basketball player.” This communicates to me that self-success
and remaining true to your own values and belief is what can lead you to the
right part of success. Everyone brings their own thoughts and skills to the
table no person is the same, they all hold different attributes.
This week has made me think in the mind as a teacher; we
should adopt this way of thinking into the classroom. By ensuring each student
understands who they are and what they stand for is necessary for students to
strive and succeed. Teamwork (group work) is essential in the building blocks
of student success. As a teacher we need to support the student and give
appropriate feedback to each individual student to keep them on the right path,
not only for school education but giving them the confidence to pursue later on
in the work place and outside of school grounds.
